Kudos to Shawn!
The other night we went out on our date. To Olive Garden for dinner and then to the much awaited TSO (Trans Siberian Orchestra) concert. Dinner was very nice...we were very surprised that we had to wait for a seat at 5pm on a Thursday, but I guess everyone was tired of eating Christmas leftovers. We enjoyed our dinner and left what we thought was in plenty of time to get over to Atlantic City. We got over there and found that everyone else and their brother's dog was also trying to find parking! We tried to go the opposite way that everyone else was going and we found the Caesar's parking garage (only $5 - that's really good for parking in AC!) and finally found some spots on the 8th level. Here's where the problem began. We started walking to where we thought we should go, but had no idea where we were going. We asked some people if they knew where Boardwalk Hall was and they said they were going to the concert and the guy acted like he knew where he was going...so we just followed them. Then some other people started following us - so we had this caravan of people following a guy who we found out didn't know where he was going at all! HA! We got there just in time to find our seats, find the bathroom (remember I'm pregnant!) and get a $3 bottle of water...what a ripoff! Then the entertainment began!?!?!
The concert started and it was nothing like what we thought it would be. They played a lot of songs that we have never heard before and only played like 2 or 3 that we recognized. There was a narrator who was telling a story between the songs but I couldn't follow anything that he was saying...he kept talking about a lonely man at a bar, angels flying over Sarajevo, and all of the world getting along b/c it was Christmas Eve. It was a light show as well and the lasers were cool but then they would shine these flood lights right in your eyes and you couldn't see anything - if I didn't have a headache beforehand, I definitely did afterward. And last but not least even when it was a song that we recognized and liked, the four guitarists in the front were so distracting...they were like an 80's hair band that only had a couple of guitar moves and kept head banging. IT WAS WEIRD!!!!
I kept sitting there thinking how am I going to tell Shawn that I want to leave without hurting his feelings - I mean this was my big Christmas present and the tickets weren't cheap. By this time I really wasn't feeling good and he had asked me a couple of times if I was OK and if I needed to leave. It was so hot in there and the seats were all on top of each other. I told him I was OK a couple of times, and by like the 5th time he asked I started to wonder if he wanted to leave too. He said that we would go after the next song and I figured I could stand another 3 or 4 minutes. Well the next song was literally like 10 minutes long - something like the Ballad of Mr. Christmas...I don't know! When we got out in the hall and realized that both of us hated it as much as the other, we couldn't stop laughing!
To see how bad it was, click the Shawn's blog link on the right and he wrote about it as well. He found a video clip as well.
I apologize to all of you out there who love TSO and are die hard fans...I thought I was too. I think I am just going to stick to liking what they play on the radio!
I give Shawn kudos for thoughtfulness! It's not his fault that it was the worst possible concert ever! We had fun together and we'll laugh about that for a long time! I love you, Babe!

hehehe.
i'm glad you're able to laugh about it!!!
love you!
Hey Girl! Dain and I went to TSO when they were in Little Rock 2 years ago and both LOVED it! I think it depends on what "show" they are doing. They have different ones they do. Anyway, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the concert. Our seats were to the side of the stage though, so we weren't directly getting hit by the lights. Don't give up on 'em! HAHA!!!!! I hope you both had a great holiday! We did! We need to catch up! Call us sometime (501-835-4114)!
